For the first time Brazil will have two races of Ironman 70.3 world circuit. The second race will take place in Foz do Iguaçu, located at Paraná State and widely known for the greatness of its waterfalls and natural beauties.
Race is consisted by 1.9 km swim, 90.1 km bike and 21.1 km run courses which pass inside Itaipu Binacional, the world's largest generator of renewable clean energy.
Race starts at Iate Clube Lago de Itaipu (ICLI). The 1900 meters are in a triangle form, with 430 m towards the opposite bank, followed by 670 m parallel to the shore and finalize the last 800 meters in a diagonal line, returning to the same point of the start, where T1 is located. Athletes will leave Iate Clube riding 22 km towards Itaipu Hydroelectric Power Plant. In this way, they’ll pass by the world largest power substations - Eletrobras Furnas. From Itaipu gate, the three lap bike course starts. Each lap has a 22.7 km inside the power plant.
The bike leg inside the plant will pass by scenic points, such as the Dam, the Itaipu lake, the channel of spawning and the central lookout. Mostly flat course, with little variation in altitude, with the highest change in 5km of 50 meters (km 24 on the first lap, km 47 on the second and km 70 on the third).
An unforgettable run, providing athletes the contact with one of the seven Wonders of the Modern World, the 21.1 Km will be done in a one single lap inside of Itaipu Dam. Beginning in front of the Visitors Center, the run course passes by UNILA (Latin American University), the Barrageiro Theatre, the Spillway Lookout and afterwards, the riverside will provide one of the most beautiful views of the Plant. Then a remarkable stretch through the main Dam, crossing the Power House and Forced Conduits toward Dam Side, will take athletes underneath the spillway, when at km 9.5 starts the most challenging stretch, with 2km climb in a variation of approximately 90 meters high. This climb finishes at the "Paraguayan side", where the u-turn is also located (11.5 km).
There will be 3.7 kilometers flat over the dam and spillway, followed by a steep descent of 600 meters, then the last 5km toward the finish.
