Ironman 70.3 New Orleans

Triathlon Serie: 

The 2012 swim course will be a simple and safe point to point course similar to what was used in the 2009 Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans event. Athletes will walk the .6 miles to the London Canal Bridge from transition along Lakeshore Drive where you will find the swim start banners and parking lot for swim start! Athletes will walkdown the seawall steps into Lake Pontchartrain for the in water start of your 1.2 mile swim. Competitors will swim in a westerly direction for the first 300 meters then make a 180 u-turn around the yellow turn buoy as they begin to swim east towards swim exit at the sandy beach front behind the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park. As in 2009, 90% of this swim course will be along the Lakeshore Drive Seawall making this one of the safest and spectator friendly swim courses in the 70.3 international series.

The 13.1 mile run course at this years Ochsner Ironman 70.3 New Orleans will incorporate the roads along Lakeshore Drive and within City Park. Athletes will leave the transition area and head west along lakeshore Drive to Westend Blvd. where they will make a u-turn and head east. Athletes will veer to the right onto Beauregard Avenue and head south on Beauregard to Wisner Blvd.. Athletes will run along Wisner Blvd. in City Park to Harrison Avenue where they will turn right and run on Harrison until they reach Marconi Drive. At Marconi Drive athletes will make a u-turn and run back up Harrison to Diagonal Drive where athletes wil turn right up Diagonal than back to Harrison Avenue. At Harrison runners will turn right than left back onto Wisner Blvd along the eastern edge of City Park back to Lakeshore Drive. Back on Lakeshore Drive athletes will turn left and run over the Bayou St. John Bridge heading east which will take runners to the finish line on the campus of the University of New Orleans Research and Technology Park.
